It’s been a while since we last talked and I’ve got a lot of stuff to get off my chest.
Despite baseball being the only sport currently in action, the sports world is abuzz as the NFL gets set to get underway for their last season before the lockout, college football has been in the headlines for agents/runners and the NBA is still topsy-turvy because of King James.
First off I want to talk about “Fat” Albert Haynesworth. Haynesworth of course is the 100 million dollar defensive tackle that threw a hissy-fit this off-season because the Redskins switched up their defensive strategy when new head coach, Mike Shanahan, came to town.
Shanahan is of course famous from his John Elway days when he guided the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl titles, while Haynesworth is famous for stomping on some dudes’ dome. So obviously Haynesworth has the upper ground to stand on.
After skipping the off-season conditioning programs and “voluntary” workouts, Haynesworth shows up to camp over-weight and fails to pass the conditioning test in order to be allowed to practice. I don’t think anyone in the NFL thinks that Fat Al won’t play this season, but many believe that this disruption this early in training camp will be a hinderance to the Skins season.
Well they are wrong because the Redskins aren’t going to make the playoffs either way and Haynesworth will eventually pass the test before throwing another hissy-fit. Just watch out Shanahan you don’t want to be under this dude’s left foot.
Moving over to the collegiate game, agents and runners have been running rampant by throwing parties in South Beach (MagicFanatics Territory) and slipping some top prospects some benjamins under the table.
The NCAA of course frowns upon this and has invaded college campuses to talk to some of these future NFL players. Florida, North/South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Clemson have all played host to the NCAA investigators and the results are yet to be seen.
But let me say this; THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP THIS. Agents have been paying top collegiate players for years and it will never end because you can’t always watch over the players; this isn’t 1984 and Big Brother isn’t here. Players are going to get paid by agents, boosters and sometimes even coaches and some will get caught (I’m looking at you Reggie Bush), but most won’t so get over it.
The NBA isn’t my expertise and I don’t claim it to be, but I feel that I should throw in my two cents about Lebron and his “betrayal” of Cleveland fans.
Did LeBron betray the city of Cleveland by not returning to the Cavs? No. Did he stab Cavs fans in the heart by doing it on a hour-long special on the biggest sports network in the world? Absolutely.
Let’s get this straight. LeBron is an egomaniac as most NBA players are. They have been told all their life that they are the shit and everyone should grovel at their feet. So it should surprise no one that LeBron the most prized NBA free-agent ever wanted the biggest stage of all to announce his decision.
On that same note, I don’t know one free agent that would ever want to go play in Cleveland for owner Dan Gilbert. That dude is crazy and has some serious emotional issues when it comes to his workers. Take a chill pill dude and lay off the caps lock.
I guess thats it for now diary, try to stay in touch.
